Gulf Coast Update

I've been in Turkey Creek, MS for the past couple of weeks working with Turkey Creek Community Initiatives. Busy days and nights following its chief organizer Derrick Evans has left little time for me to update my blog, however I have created a weblog for TCCI....http://tccinews.blogspot.com for those of you wishing to know a bit of what I have been up to. We are leaving Turkey Creek today heading for Washington DC where Derrick is scheduled to testify on Historic Preservation in the aftermath of Katrina, as it relates to previously overlooked African American sites on the Gulf Coast.

The above photo was taken at a North Gulfport, MS housing community locally known as "Red Ball." We visited the site with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights as they documented abuses suffered by residents in the days and weeks following Hurricane Katrina.
